Leviton Equips Major US Telecommunications Provider with Comprehensive Data Center Services and Systems
The Challenge
Our client, a US telecommunications provider, offers a diversified portfolio of technology and telecommunications services. The company experienced skyrocketing demand for their data center and colocation services, and needed a partner that would execute smooth installation and maintenance as its data centers expanded.
The client’s utilized data center space increased from 10,000 sq ft to 200,000 in the span of four years — and based on customer demand, would double again in as little as 24-36 months.
The Solution
After browsing the market and evaluating numerous options, the client went with an infrastructure package from technology representative PC Telecom Group (PCT) that included Leviton structured cabling solutions. The client, through PCT, selected a standard set of products for all of their primary infrastructure components, including power, cooling, racks and cabinets, cable management, and structured cabling. The client selected the components that provided the most flexibility and best integration with the rest of its infrastructure, delivering outstanding performance, quality, and reliability.
Color-coded Cat 6 patch cords, bundled cables, and connectors provided bandwidth and performance while distinguishing routing and connectivity at a glance.
Pre-terminated LC-LC fiber trunks and MTP-LC harnesses offered exceptional dB loss rates and dramatically shortened time frames for completing large-scale installations.
Customized Solutions
While a great deal of the work done for the client involved standardized solutions, Leviton also created custom solutions to meet the organization’s needs. For example, when staff discovered that they needed a new cable manager to adequately support the fiber in some of their cabinets, Leviton created a patch cord organizer that installed vertically instead of in the traditional horizontal configuration to fit their requirements.
The Impact
With so much of the expansion relying on Leviton’s standardized solutions, ordering, stocking, installations, and maintenance are all greatly simplified, and centers can transfer components between facilities freely. Installations are completed on tight schedules, with Leviton partner-certified contractors helping get new facilities and floors up and running seamlessly.
The client’s immediate plans following the successful expansion of one of their facilities is to continue building onto their others; namely, adding another level to a three-story downtown facility, converting 20,000 sq ft of workstations into data center space. The client also aims to develop an entirely new facility in Ohio, a 200,000 sq ft facility that should enable the organization to keep up with customer demand for its services for some time. Through it all, the Leviton team stood by to assist and provide support in any way possible.
