Power Strips Frequently Asked Questions

A commercial power strip is a multi-outlet device designed to distribute power to multiple pieces of equipment in workplaces and other demanding environments. These power strips are often built for durability and frequent use.

Commercial grade power strips are typically designed for workplace environments and may offer features such as durable construction, mounting options, longer cords, overload protection, or surge protection. Residential power strips are generally intended for everyday household use and may not offer the same features or ratings. Always confirm that the power strip is listed or certified for its intended application and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Common applications include:

  • Offices and workstations
  • Retail environments
  • Schools and universities

An integrated on/off switch provides a convenient way to control power to connected devices from a single location and can help reduce energy consumption when equipment is not in use, for compatible connected devices.

Depending on the power strip’s ratings and instructions, compatible equipment may include computers, monitors, networking devices, charging stations, and other office electronics. Always ensure the connected load does not exceed the strip's electrical rating.

A standard power strip simply provides additional outlets, while a surge-protected model incorporates components designed to help safeguard connected equipment from voltage spikes and power surges.
