Lighting Frequently Asked Questions

  • LED downlights use less energy, last longer, and require less maintenance than traditional halogen and incandescent lights.

  • Yes, all Leviton light fixtures are tested and certified through ENERGY STAR®.

  • Yes, many of our downlights are IC rated indicating that the light fixture is safe to be in direct contact with ceiling insulation.
  • Always verify the fixture rating before installation.

  • All Leviton downlights have tested dimming compatibility and performance with Leviton dimmers except for the Motion Sensor Downlight, which is not dimmable.
  • For more information on dimmer compatibility, each product’s Compatible Dimmer List can be found on their corresponding product page under “Documents”.

  • 120VAC

  • A certification that ensures a fixture can safely operate in areas where it may come into direct contact with water. Our lighting fixtures are built with a closed cell gasket to prevent water from entering the electrical components.
  • With wet location rating, our downlights are suitable for shower installations and outdoor applications with covered ceilings.

  • CRI stands for Color Rendering Index.
  • A series of standardized color chips are measured to determine the difference in the colors between the light source being evaluated and a reference light source. A CRI of 100 would indicate no difference in the appearance of the colors under the two sources.
  • A CRI of 80 is standard but increasingly LED sources can deliver CRI’s of 90 or higher with minimal cost difference.

  • Adjusting the Color Temperature depends on the fixture. Leviton’s recessed downlights have a remote driver with a switch for adjusting the CCT. The Surface Mount series has its switch located on the back of the fixture. The Motion Sensor Downlight has its switch located under the surface cover.
  • All Leviton Downlights have Selectable CCT that can be adjusted after installation, but it will require temporarily removing the fixture from the ceiling.

  • Yes. All photometric files can be found on a product’s corresponding product page under “Documents”, and the 3000K IES file is found below that under “IES”.

  • Fixed downlights shine straight down while adjustable or gimbal downlights can be tilted to highlight specific areas or features.
