Leviton–Powering AI’s Demand in Data Centers Increases Distributor Bottom Line

AI is transforming the electrical landscape, and data centers are soaring to the top of the energy food chain to support the rapidly increasing demand for information. Leviton offers a host of products and solutions distributors should be aware of for their data center contractors.

The Challenge to Meet the Rising Infrastructure Demands
Electricity consumption from data centers has grown at 12% per year over the past five years, and global electricity consumption for data centers is projected to double to around 945 TWh by 2030.

Additionally, the global data center construction market size was estimated at USD 240.97 billion in 2024 and projected to reach USD 456.50 billion by 2030, driven by the rising demand for digital infrastructure.

As several factors contribute to higher electricity consumption rates, data centers play an increasingly significant role in this expansion. Leviton is committed to offering the best products and solutions in the industry to ensure successful builds and proper functionality. Contractors need to have these products available to meet the rapid growth of data center construction and operations in their market, and distributors need to have a plan to meet the demand.

Leviton Solutions for Data Centers
Data center areas are designed in three areas: White Space, Gray Space, and Outside Plant (OSP): Leviton provides industry-leading solutions for all.

  • White Space refers to the area housing IT hardware such as servers, network switches, routers, storage area devices, and physical Layer One optical fiber and copper cabling with cross-and inter-connections.  White space also contains other related equipment, like Building Management Systems (BMS) and security systems, and is climate-controlled by Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) A/C units. The white space is where the computing happens.
  • Gray Space can be called back-of-house infrastructure and includes the power and cooling systems that support the white space, and includes the dual A & B power areas and related switch gear, its own CRAH cooling systems, POE (Power over Ethernet) /ISP (Internet Service Providers) and OSP (Outside Plant) demarcation cabling near the entrance facility (EF). It also contains uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, including battery backup and/or flywheel systems, as well as fire/security alarm systems.
  • Outside Plant (OSP) includes utility main power switches, two generators with dedicated switches, a dual fuel supply, the leading backup chiller, and sometimes a backup water supply for the AC CRAH units.

Leviton Data Center Construction and Operation Devices

LEV Series IEC Pin & Sleeve Devices: Each server inside a data center has two Pin & Sleeve devices connecting power, one for normal power and one for emergency backup, with multiple ways to provide the power to each unit, either overhead or beneath a raised floor.

Leviton’s LEV Series Pin & Sleeve devices include a comprehensive offering of IEC 60309-1 and 60309-2 plugs, connectors, inlets, backboxes and mechanical interlocks designed for simple installation, and to improve productivity and safety in the harshest environments. Essential features for data centers include:

Insider-Focused-Product-October-02
  • Fewer screws and threaded housings for fast, easy assembly
  • Leviton exclusive captive, hex style terminal screws
  • Nickel-plated brass pin & sleeves that are self-cleaning, and corrosion-resistant
  • Industry-leading 5-year warranty

Leviton is also meeting the data center market with a score of new SKUs utilizing 4-and 5-wire configurations in the 6 o’clock position, and liquid-tight adapters to accommodate under-floor data center applications. Of the existing Pin & Sleeve devices, forty-eight of them are quickly opening sales opportunities in the data center market because they are now dual-rated and UL tested to international ratings.

ArcArrest® Switch-Rated Pin and Sleeve Devices
ArcArrest® switch-rated pin and sleeve devices meet NEC requirements for line-of-sight disconnect for a motor load. Listed under UL 2682 and NFPA 70E, they can operate as switches and safely disconnect loads while energized. They are designed so there is no exposure to live electrical components or arc flash, even during active operation.

Single Pole Cam-Type Connectors
Leviton single pole connectors are used in a variety of temporary indoor and outdoor applications, including welding and construction sites, mining operations, sports, entertainment, and data center applications.

Compatible with competitive products, the single-pole devices can be retrofitted to existing power distribution systems and locations. Most plugs and receptacles are crack and shatter-proof with the bodies and sleeves constructed of Rhino-Hide® to withstand the harshest environments. Leviton’s single-pole connectors have color-coded insulating sleeves for easy identification.

Leviton 50 Amp Devices
Used to power data centers associated with industrial generators, Leviton makes both NEMA and Non-NEMA configurations in the Black and White® industrial grade plugs and connectors line. 50 Amp devices are larger and capable of handling much higher power. They are used in applications where higher amperage is required, and where the connection needs to be locked for additional stability and safety. The Black and White series features plugs and connectors that are wired to cables to connect power sources and recipients. This line also has receptacles and flanged inlets that mount at the location where power is needed. Featured points include:

  • Available in NEMA and Non-NEMA configurations
  • Amp range is 15A to 60A
  • Straight blade or locking
  • Industry-exclusive LIFETIME warranty

Power Distribution Units (PDU)
Data center servers, storage, and networking equipment need robust and reliable power, and Leviton’s PDUs deliver.

P1000 Series PDUs are ideal for server rooms, wiring closets, and other environments requiring continuous power in demanding environments with limited space. All models feature circuit breaker protection, a hardwired power input cord, and LED indicators for power and grounding/polarity. They are available in vertical Zero-U or horizontal 19-inch rack mount styles with 120V configurations in 15-, 20-, or 30-amp versions.

5500/5505 Series PDUs power and protect vital electronic equipment. They include resettable circuit breakers to protect against overloads, 12 receptacles, 20-amp versions with either a straight blade or a locking input plug and can be mounted horizontally on 19-inch racks or cabinets.

As AI continues to accelerate data center growth, distributors who stock Leviton’s specialized connectivity and power solutions will be best positioned to support contractors and capture market opportunities.
