- What is the Switch Tester Module used for?
- It allows electricians to make sure the Decora Evolve Single Pole (*Square Symbol*) & Companion (*Triangle Symbol*) Switches are wired correctly.
- Does it work with the Primary Switch?
- It can be inserted into the Primary (*Pentagon Symbol*) Switch but the Primary Switch will only pass the hot check if it’s wired 100% correctly, so this module is not necessary for it.
- How can the Evolve Single Pole & Companion Switches be wired incorrectly if they pass the hot check?
- Although the single-pole switch doesn’t need the neutral wire to turn the light on, any upgrade module (like a motion sensor or night light) will need it to work if the homeowner decides to add one. If mis wired, the switch will also stop working once the upgrade module’s been inserted. This applies to all of the incorrect wiring conditions on the face of the switch tester module. If the switch does not work when a module is inserted, it means the switch was wired improperly and this may result in a call back to the Contractor or Builder.
- Why can I only use it after the switch has passed the hot check?
- In order for the Switch Tester Module to work it will first need to be provided power by the switch, which it won’t be able to get unless the switch is wired properly enough to provide power to the light.
- How do you use it?
- Once you have confirmed the Decora Evolve Single-Pole or Companion Switch turns the light on, you should remove the blank module from the switch and insert the Switch Tester Module, making sure it’s fully inserted as indicated by the tabs on the top.
- I confirmed the switch turns the light on and made sure the Tester is fully inserted, why are no LEDs lighting up?
- This means that the Line (Hot) or Neutral wires are missing on the switch and therefore no power can be supplied to the tester, it is expressed as the bottom of the key label on the face of the tester.
- Can I use this on the Decora Evolve Receptacle?
- No, it can only be used on the Decora Evolve Switches.
- Does the Tester check for Ground?
- No, it does not check for ground.
- Can I use this on any products that are not part of the Decora Evolve family of products?
- No, it’s only designed to be used with the Decora Evolve Switches.
