Leviton LIVE: Send Your Contractors and Watch it Pay Off

Same contractors. Same SKUs. Same quantities. The same conversation again and again. What if one phone call could change all of that? What if you could energize those flat orders without hiring trainers, running fancy promotions, or spending a penny?

Leviton’s Contractor Connect Training Series provide the education your contractors need. Leviton Live is a one-day, all-expenses-paid training that gives your contractors a fresh perspective on where the industry is heading and how they can benefit.

After attending a contractor focused training at a Leviton LIVE location, contractors gain confidence in product knowledge and learn how to quote, bundle and bid more complete jobs with Leviton’s award-winning solutions.

You just have to get your contractors there. Leviton will do the rest.

Leviton LIVE Experience Centers were created to highlight Leviton products across residential, commercial, industrial and network solutions applications, as well as showcase design possibilities in a hands-on learning environment. This immersive, in-person experience gives contractors a unique way to see the products in action. Contractors often remark, “I didn’t know Leviton did that,” or “Seeing this gives me more selling and installation ideas,” as they move through the centers.

There are three Leviton LIVE Experience Centers: Chicago, Nashville, and Lake Nona, FL. Each facility highlights a different part of Leviton’s business.

Inside Training Day

I recently had the opportunity to attend, Beyond the Switch: Designing Perfect Lighting, at Leviton LIVE Lake Nona. This classy-looking, well-appointed retrofitted home showcases residential products including Decora Smart Lighting, AFCI and GFCI receptacles, load control products, EV charging stations, and more.

Following a light continental breakfast in the lobby, our day kicked off with introductions. Steven Doty, senior manager of contractor marketing, organized the event; Kit Gaines, construction and technical specialist, walked the contractors through each product line; and Callie Shilling, Lake Nona LIVE customer experience concierge, was our expert tour guide and kept things moving smoothly.

Doty noted, “The reason we are doing these trainings is that contractors have told us they want to know more about the industry as a whole, trends and marketing dynamics, and how to partner with manufacturers.”

Next, the attendees introduced themselves, representing independent contractors as well as those from larger multi-city companies. All were eager to experience Leviton’s full line of residential solutions and gain practical, hands-on product knowledge.

Shilling led our tour of the home. Her intimate knowledge of how each product, from the EV charger and load center in the garage to the features of each Decora Smart lighting device, USB charging outlet, and AFCI/GFCI receptacle fit together for a whole home experience was eye-opening.

Comprehensive product talks followed as Gaines explained the details of Leviton’s lighting controls, Decora Smart home solutions, codes and more. As he talked, he asked engaging questions, encouraging the contractors to discuss and solve problems experienced in their own business.

Given the many devices Kit covered, a “How to Sell” box was included in the PowerPoint presentation, adding even more value to the contractors. He detailed how intuitive Leviton smart devices are and how easy they are to program within the My Leviton app. He drove home this large selling point for residential customers: ease of use.

“I installed Leviton smart devices all over my home, and my wife controls our whole home. She easily set up and programmed all the devices in minutes with the My Leviton app,” Kit stated.

Doty rounded out the classroom series with valuable sales and marketing tips to assist contractors with their websites, social media campaigns and more. This session was full of interaction between Leviton and the contractors as Steve carefully listened to their pain points and gave practical, valuable and ready-to-implement guidance.

“Contractors want to see the products up close but also want to know how to talk to customers to ensure they are meeting needs, not just push products that might not be the best for them. It’s all about learning more, doing more and selling more. Contractors want to increase business and ultimately make more money, and that is why we are doing these events.”

Why Sending Your Contractors Matters for Your Business

Contractors who know more order differently. After seeing how Leviton EV chargers, load centers, smart dimmers and receptacles work together to make a whole home system, they have the confidence to bid, bundle and upsell systems that ultimately take small orders to a larger margin for the distributor.

Whole -home connectivity, EV charging, and smart load centers are not just upgrades anymore but are standard requests. Contractors at the forefront of trends are who customers call in the long run. A contractor who can articulate about new technologies not only gets the job but also becomes a trusted advisor for future projects, and the distributor who helped them gain this confidence and knowledge by introducing them to Leviton LIVE Contractor Training becomes their trusted partner.

Matthew Bolton with Tri-City Electrical Contractors expressed his feelings after participating in a training event at Lake Nona in May:

“Smart technology is becoming so popular and mainstream, and I need to learn more about it. The more informed I am, the better I can guide my customers.” He went on, “I have been using Leviton products for over ten years, am very familiar with how intuitive and user-friendly they are but needed to know about newer devices on the market. I appreciate knowing what direction Leviton is going in and some of the new things they are developing.”
