In 2026, Leviton marks a 120-year legacy of modern innovation that demonstrates not just longevity but also the ability to lead the industry through the major shifts and challenges shaping the electrical world. As the electrical demand worldwide accelerates into markets such as smart buildings, EVs, sustainability, and AI-driven data center growth, Leviton is positioned to help the industry navigate one of the fastest growth cycles in its history.
The Electrical Future is Here
Smart homes and energy-efficient buildings are no longer just interesting future wish-list ideas; they are vital mainstream construction trends, and the electrical industry is experiencing explosive growth not only in smart new builds but also in retrofits. The average home, for example, requires 50% more electrical capacity than just a few short years ago.
We sat down with Terrence Redding, Leviton’s Manager of Market Research and Development, to get an overview of trends shaping the industry landscape and how Leviton is positioned to assist distributors and contractors in the coming year.
Data Centers: The Center of the Electrical Game
Currently, data centers are at the top of the electrical food chain. The power needed to support AI and cloud computing data has exploded in recent years, and all signs point to continued intense growth.
“The demand for data storage is skyrocketing, and we’ve reached a point where every data center we can build is critical,” Terrence said. “We’re hitting capacity limits, building as fast as possible, while manufacturers race to keep up with an unprecedented level of demand.”
It has been challenging for electrical manufacturers to keep ahead of the demand. Companies are racing to strengthen their infrastructure to stay in front of the demand acquiring product lines, forming strategic partnerships, and building factories.
“Many companies, including Leviton, have had to rapidly scale manufacturing capacity to produce significantly more products,” Terrence explained. “For example, Leviton expanded production by adding a factory in Camargo, Mexico, and by introducing new temporary power product lines—both developed internally and acquired to strengthen our portfolio.”
Experts say this current boom will last at least through 2030, but more adjustments will be needed when demand for new data centers slows, particularly in how maintenance, repair, and operations are managed.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging
The EV evolution is accelerating rapidly, and Leviton is positioned to meet demand and adapt to these changes. As new technologies emerge, Leviton is ahead of the curve for several reasons. Still, our diverse portfolio and company longevity position us well to meet industry needs across the residential, commercial, and industrial EV markets.
“As many of our competitors in the EV Charging Infrastructure space face financial difficulties. The fact that we aren’t going anywhere and are increasing our EV portfolio, gives distributors confidence to navigate this rapidly changing market.” Terrence mentioned, “The benefit of Leviton is we have been around for 120 years; we have the history and the robust product set that allows us confidence in the long-term. Leviton is the right choice for distributors looking for a long-term partner.”
Residential Growth for the Future
Homeowners are demanding comfort, convenience, efficiency, and app-driven solutions.
With the continued strong performance and expansion of the Lever Edge product line, Smart Load Center, and residential EV chargers, and new product lines in the works, Leviton is excited about the future for 2026.
Leviton offers a whole residential solution, moving beyond single devices to full-home integration spanning load centers, EV charging, smart lighting, safety products, and connected controls and apps, all designed to operate as one unified platform. Several new products for homeowners will be released in the coming year, and Leviton is boldly innovating and changing the landscape for homeowners, contractors and installers.
Governmental Projects and Infrastructure Upgrades
Leviton products are included in several government projects, including the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM), a program to transition the old Veterans Administration record system to a new Federal EHRM.
“We’ve had a good year with the VA, and other local, state, and national opportunities. We are selling them the structured cabling and electrical products so they can update their data centers and get them to a modern level.” Terrence explained, “They are outdated by several years, and Leviton ended up being the basis of design for their EHRM rollout thanks to efforts of Dan Munson Leviton’s Director of Government Sales.”
