The Customer
The Ogden International School of Chicago is a new school in downtown Chicago. The school strives to create an internationally-aware environment for the children, immersing the curriculum in foreign languages, studies and field experiences in order to create future global citizens. Sustainability is a large part of the school’s philosophy, and making the most of energy and space was essential to its design.
The Challenge
Daylight harvesting and energy control was desired, but had to be able to interface with a larger BMS system in the facility.
The Solution
Leviton’s Z-MAX™ Plus was selected to create an energy management system within the facility.
Linked to a series of occupancy sensors and photocells, the Z-MAX Plus relay panels provided control over common areas such as hallways, the library and the cafeteria.
MiniZ units offered selfconfiguring daylight harvesting to utilize natural light in the classrooms.
The Results
As a result of sustainable design and energy management, The Ogden International School earned LEED Gold Certification. The school was also awarded the 2011 Engineering News Record Award of Merit in the K-12 Educational Facilities category.
