Leviton Crafts Two High-Performance Networks for Renovated Legal Facility
The Challenge
An international legal and tax firm sought a network infrastructure partner for a project in Madrid, Spain. The site of this project was a very old, emblematic double building in the city undergoing a complex, structural renovation. As the renovation of the building proceeded, the network infrastructure partner they sought needed to create two high-availability networks – a corporate network and an AV network – with a high density of points per workstation, complex access, narrow ducts, and minimal space for IT racks.
- Rack spacing was very limited – the building had 25 floors, and only one rack could be used for every 2 or 3 floors.
- Deadlines were tight, and as such, the firm needed a partner that could commit to meeting strict delivery windows.
The Solution
Leviton’s first proposal was to create a design with a U/FTP zone solution because the cable had a small diameter. After analyzing the installation, the low availability of racks generated long distances at some network points, added to the end customer’s preference for UTP systems.
Finally, we provided a design that leveraged our EXTREME™ SST Cat 6A UTP MILLENNIUM™ Global System, Small-Diameter High-Flex Patch Cords, and consolidation points to reduce dispersion. This fit the capacity requirements of the final cable conduits and met the density needs requested by the customer.

The Impact
Post-implementation, the newly-renovated building had two fully functional networks, and a scalable infrastructure to facilitate fast and easy upgrades.
