The rules covering GFCI protection in wet/damp locations as well as for portable/temporary power applications are rather extensive and detailed. A condensed version of these rules appear below.
Manual Motor Controllers and Safety Disconnect Switches
Leviton AC Manual Motor Controllers are Listed to UL 60947-4-1 (supersedes UL 508) and provide safe, reliable ON/OFF control of individual motor loads. These devices are also listed “Suitable as Motor Disconnect”, which allows them to cut power for equipment servicing and are designed to withstand motor overloads and higher short circuit currents than conventional manual motor controllers.
Our non-fused enclosed rotary safety disconnect switches are also Listed to UL 60947-4-1 and “Suitable as Motor Disconnect”, while the fused versions are Listed to UL 98 for use in disconnecting branch circuits.
