NEC requires AFCI protection on nearly all 120‑V, 10–20A branch circuits in dwelling-unit living spaces—including bedrooms, living/dining areas, kitchens, laundry areas, hallways, closets, sunrooms, finished basements, and similar rooms—with several acceptable methods of compliance.
