Leviton’s Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor and Smart Sensor App — formerly known as the Provolt Room Controller and App — are now easier to use and more feature-rich than ever.
Controlling a room’s lighting has long been a breeze with Leviton’s Provolt Room Controllers (recently rebranded as Leviton’s “Smart Ceiling Mount Sensors”). And commissioning those sensors has also gotten even easier ever since the former Provolt Room Controller App was consolidated under Leviton’s centralized Smart Sensor App, an all-in-one approach to configuring lighting controls from the convenience of a Bluetooth-enabled mobile device.
“Leviton will continue to support the Provolt App for contractors and building managers,” confirmed Reid Parks, Leviton Product Manager, Controls. “But users will appreciate the former Provolt App’s recent consolidation within Leviton’s broader Smart Sensor App as well as the expanded features that make the new Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor line readily compliant with all of the latest building and energy codes, from Title 24 to ICC, ASHRAE, and more.”
Among other features, the Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor line (and Smart Sensor App) can link multiple products together and enable more independent zone control within the same shared space. “And in multiple daylighting zones, each product can be adjusted within each individual zone, in compliance with newer energy codes,” Parks said. “While the former Provolt technology could accomplish some of that, the new Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor enables local zones to be independently and manually controlled, which is an important requirement for codes like Title 24.”
One and Done
“Overall, the new Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor line enables multiple-zone lighting, occupancy sensing, daylighting control, vacancy control, and demand response as needed -- all wirelessly connected and programmed from a mobile device,” Parks said. “No other competing product in the market today can offer all of those capabilities in as few components as Leviton’s technology.”
As a result, Leviton’s Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor and Smart Sensor App offer electrical contractors many benefits.
“Before, contractors needed to wire connections to a range of components such as a low-voltage occupancy sensor, power pack, photocell, and dimmer switch on the wall in order to achieve all that our wireless Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor accomplishes with many fewer components,” he explained. “The only wiring connection needed for Leviton’s system is to the lighting load (though we offer hardwired switches for customers who prefer that option based on the application). And our Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor also meets UL 924 emergency bypass control requirements in spaces that can be connected to a building management system (BMS).”
When it comes to programming the sensors, “competitive devices can require many adjustments – which means many trips up and down a ladder for contractors,” Parks said. “By contrast, Leviton’s user-friendly Smart Sensor App walks contractors through all the settings, both standard and advanced, right from a smartphone and offers the convenience of ‘ladderless commissioning.’”
“Our sensor, programmable through our Smart Sensor App, makes a contractor’s life easier and enables them to complete the installation quicker and move on to their next job,” Parks confirmed.
An All-Encompassing App
Since May 2024, Leviton’s Smart Sensor App encompasses and controls the following products:
“Anyone who’s used the Provolt App will be able to use the new Smart Sensor App because they’re similar in look and feel,” Parks promised, “and the former Provolt App’s recent consolidation within the broader and streamlined Smart Sensor App enhances user ease and accessibility.”
“The App enables you to engage customized lighting control right from a smartphone based on your space’s intended use and user preferences,” he added. “You can calibrate daylighting, customize partial-on levels, configure the product as required by code, and then customize the settings further to save even more energy through such options as shorter timeouts, lower partial-on levels, limits on the daylighting override, etc.”
“Ultimately, our customers love these upgrades and find the Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor and Smart Sensor App highly flexible,” Parks said. “The product can be used in so many different spaces, can combine multiple devices to expand coverage, and all of it is easy to configure through the App. If you’re not sure what technology to use to meet a certain energy code, this is a great go-to for complying with all of the major lighting and plug-load energy codes.”
In addition to incorporating fewer components and satisfying so many current lighting control/energy code requirements, “the Smart Ceiling Mount Sensor is simple to install and easy to program through the Smart Sensor App – all of which puts contractors in the driver’s seat and minimizes callbacks,” Parks concluded. “And Leviton’s knowledgeable customer service, technical support, and field support associates are always at the ready if contractors need us.”
