Leviton’s new line of Slim Downlight Fixtures – which include Round Baffle Downlights, Square Baffle Downlights, Adjustable Downlights, 2-Hour Fire-Rated Downlights, and an LED Downlight with Motion Sensor - is making headlines, and for good reason. Paired with Leviton’s renowned portfolio of residential dimmers, Leviton’s duo of downlights and dimmers deliver the utmost in compatibility, performance, and peace of mind.

Leviton’s new family of downlights currently includes the following five types:

• Round Baffle Downlights and Square Baffle Downlights - Ideal for retrofit, remodel, or new construction applications in multi-family residential, hospitality, and light commercial settings, these models are available in 4- to 8-inch options, feature selectable color temperature, and don’t require an existing housing or junction box.
• Adjustable Slim Downlights - Ideally suited for most residential and light commercial new construction or remodel applications, these models are available in 4-inch and 6-inch round apertures, require only a 2-inch plenum, and are fully adjustable up to 80° of tilt and 350° of rotation.
• Fire-Rated Baffle Slim Downlight - Designed for modern single- and multi-family residential as well as light commercial applications and available in 4-inch and 6-inch round apertures, this versatile downlight is designed for construction that requires up to a 2-hour fire rating.
• LED Downlight with Motion Sensor - This 8-inch downlight is an ideal and energy-efficient approach to lighting closets, laundry rooms, attics, and basements, where instant-on illumination is paramount.

Leviton Product Manager Sophia Whitaker answers some of the most frequently asked questions about Leviton’s bold new line of downlights and why Leviton is poised for success in this market.

What can you share about Leviton's family of dimmer and downlight products and their applications, and what's the newest item in the line?

Whitaker: We currently offer a portfolio of round and square downlights - including regressed downlights, adjustable downlights, and motion-sensor surface-mount products - for use in residential (single- and multi-family) and light commercial (offices, retail, and hospitality) applications. All of the downlights feature low-profile designs that provide visual comfort within a space, flexible installation, and reliable performance with Leviton dimmers. Our most recent addition is a family of 2-hour Fire-Rated downlights designed to maintain the code-required fire rating associated with their structure.

In today's competitive lighting and controls industry, why has Leviton introduced a line of dimmer/downlight products?

Whitaker: Leviton has a strong presence in the U.S. and Canadian commercial lighting markets, and the introduction of Leviton’s lighting products further leverages our robust position in the electrical distribution, builder, and retail segments. Ultimately, there’s natural synergy with Leviton’s extensive wallbox dimming controls, and bringing lighting and controls/dimmers under one umbrella meets our goal of simplifying the experience for channel members and end users.

What key benefits/advantages can distributors and contractors count on from Leviton's line of dimmers/downlights?

Whitaker: They can count on out-of-the-box compatibility when Leviton dimmers are installed with Leviton downlights. Leviton’s dimmers and downlights are designed and tested for reliability and performance and make it easy to customize the light level for any activity in any room.

What does the future hold for Leviton's portfolio of downlights?  Are there any new additions coming to the line?

Whitaker: This month (December), we’re releasing our low-profile Surface Mount Downlights, which will be available in 5-inch, 7-inch, and 9-inch apertures. Looking ahead, we’ll continue to expand our downlight portfolio and will potentially explore other lighting categories as well, such as track kits.
