What are Motor Controls and Safety Switches?

Think of motor controls and safety switches as the industrial counterpart to a standard light switch, but built and rated for much more demanding applications. Instead of controlling a lamp, these devices are used around motor-driven equipment such as pumps, fans, conveyors, and other machinery. Manual motor controllers provide a simple way to turn individual motor loads on and off during normal operation, while safety disconnect switches provide a visible means to disconnect power, so equipment can be serviced or maintained.

Manual motor controllers and safety disconnect switches help support the safe operation and maintenance of motor-driven equipment. Manual motor controllers are used for manual ON/OFF control of individual motor loads. Safety disconnect switches are used to disconnect power to equipment, so it can be serviced, maintained, or locked out when needed. In some cases, manual motor controllers may also be marked “Suitable as Motor Disconnect,” allowing them to serve as a disconnecting means when properly rated and installed according to applicable codes. Built for tough industrial environments, these products are available with different enclosure types and ratings to help protect them from the conditions they may face on the job.

Our Products:

Motor Controllers
Stainless steel and non-metallic disconnects

Manual Motor Controllers

Provides straightforward ON/OFF control for motors powering equipment like pumps, fans, and conveyors. A reliable solution for everyday motor operation in industrial and commercial applications.

 Stainless Steel Disconnect Switch

Completely isolates power to equipment during maintenance and servicing. Designed to support worker safety and help meet lockout/tagout requirements.

While both devices are used around motor-driven equipment, they serve different purposes. A manual motor controller is primarily used to operate a motor during normal use by turning it on and off. A safety disconnect switch is used to isolate power so equipment can be safely serviced, maintained, or locked out. Some manual motor controllers may also be used as a disconnecting means when they are properly marked, rated, and installed for that purpose.

Common Applications
