USB 3.1 and USB Type-C are different.
USB 3.1 refers to a data transfer standard (speed/performance).
- USB 3.1 Gen 1 = up to 5 Gbps
- USB 3.1 Gen 2 = up to 10 Gbps
USB Type‑C refers to a connector shape (the small, reversible oval port).
You can have:
- USB‑C connectors using USB 3.1 speeds,
- USB‑C connectors using slower USB 2.0 speeds,
- or USB‑A connectors using USB 3.1 speeds.
USB 3.1 = how fast it moves data.
USB‑C = the physical port and plug shape.
