Technical Sales Specialist - Network Solutions, Ontario

About the role 

Reporting to the Sales Director and in close cooperation with the Territory Manager(s) is her/his area, the TSS will be responsible for achieving maximum product acceptance at end user, specifier, and contractor levels through effective market intelligence, public relations, and product training efforts.

Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain contact with all senior persons who specify Leviton products, including but not limited to architects, consulting engineers, electrical engineers, various Government-level purchasing departments, industrial specifiers and major electrical contractors.  S/he will provide them with all services they require (such as sample, literature, specifier’s catalogue and copies of product specifications) and conduct informative meetings for all types of specifiers, as required.
  • Ensure that there is proper follow-up on specifications and ascertain that, where Leviton products were specified, the company obtained the order, and the product was utilized.  When opportunity arises, put forth necessary efforts to secure orders.  S/he will also report the needs of the specifier to Leviton management by suggesting new products, promotional literature, policy changes, etc.
  • Perform material take-offs from electrical/architectural drawings and/or verify product application by customers and/or agents. Keep record of and manage material application changes due to addendums and/or change-orders on a project-by-project basis.
  • Co-ordinate the creation and revision of approval drawing sets with the CAD department through the tender process.
  • Maintain complete records of specifier’s name, where Leviton was specified, description of job, etc., and advise Leviton headquarters so that they can transmit this information to other areas that may be involved.
  • Be responsible for product training on end user or specifier sites and, when required, at the distributor and contractor Level.  Upon her/his superior’s request, s/he will co-ordinate training efforts with the local Territory Manager, as per the latter’s sales plan.
  • Maintain competitive product and pricing intelligence information and share same with her/his superior.  The incumbent will also communicate pricing information to her/his area’s Territory Manager/s.
  • Actively participate, upon her/his superior’s request, in the marketing support programs (trade shows, dinner meetings, joint calls) that are planned in her/his area.
  • Keep up to date with the competitive offerings and ensure compatibility and compliance with design intent during specification crossing process.
  • Keep up to date with applicable local energy codes; maintain and promote best practices of Leviton material applications in satisfaction of the former.
  • The incumbent depending on region may be required for Strategic national accounts efforts as part of a National pursuit team.
  • Ensure proper technical coverage and support of Strategic and/or House accounts that are sold to on a direct basis to drive both regional sales and National Accounts
  • The incumbent will manage and maintain accurate project information in the Samps system and participate actively in all monthly and quarterly Sales Meetings.
  • Perform special studies and carry out special assignments, as required by his/her supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Excellent sales abilities and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of the electrical industry at the distributor and end-user levels.  
  • Stays well-informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to provide relevant and up-to-date insights.
  • Cultivates strong, trust-based relationships with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Uses industry knowledge to position products or services strategically and provide valuable insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet client expectations.
  • Able to work autonomously and well under pressure.
  • Self-directed and fast learner.
  • Project management and Auto Cad knowledge are assets.

Education and Experience 

  • College Degree, and/or an Electrical/Technical (CET) Certification.
  • The incumbent should have a minimum of five (5) years of work-related experience.
