Financial Analyst

About the role 

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst is responsible for tasks related to financial statements, analyses and transactions related to inventory, rebate programs and product costs.

Responsibilities

Financial Analysis and General Accounting

  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and expenses.
  • Prepare various journal entries, accruals and GL reconciliations.
  • Communicate financial information to various stakeholders.
  • Support month & year end processes.

Inventory

  • Calculate and analyze inventory reserve according to Leviton standards and for income tax purposes.
  • Ensure the maintenance of item costs in the system.
  • Analyze discrepancies between the inventory reports in the system and the General Ledger.
  • Responsible for the calculation and the accounting of inventory variances capitalization.
  • Track and reconcile intercompany inventory transactions.
  • Follow up on the monthly inventory purchase order report and close unused purchase orders if necessary.
  • Prepare month & year-end reports and other deliverables for inventory reporting as required.

Rebate Program

  • Prepare, track and analyze customer rebate programs, including monthly & year end reports, reconciliations and payment requisitions.
  • Prepare and submit monthly & year-end reports to customers.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to obtain annual updates and make updates to finance source files as required.

Other 

  • Participate in the year-end audit.
  • Participate in the budget process as required.
  • Perform specific analyses or special projects, as required by the supervisor.
  • Ensure that ISO standards are enforced and maintained.
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle & HFM/Hyperion would be an asset).
  • Experience in working for a multi-national organization and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Able to work with large amounts of data in Excel / Power BI and able to present information in a clear, concise and visually appealing manner to support business decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present financial information clearly.
  • Able to recognize and drive opportunities for process improvement.
  • Able to set priorities and have great problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of sales and income tax concepts.
  • Communication skills in both French and English. Proficiency in English is required for communication with colleagues across Canada and in the United States.

Education and Experience 

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in accounting. A CPA designation would be an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a sales, distribution and/or manufacturing environment.
